Brief Chronology of Consulate Period

13 April 1964

Chinmoy Kumar Ghose arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. He was met by his sponsor, Sam Spanier, and his friend, Eric Hughes.

June 1964

Began work at the Indian Consulate in Manhattan.

June 1965

Performed three songs at the Guggenheim Museum, sponsored by the Asia Society.

27 August 1965

First issue of AUM Magazine.

4 October 1965

First lecture in the USA: given at Hicksville High School, on the same day that Pope Paul VI came to New York to speak at the UN.

10 November 1965

Letter from Dr. Radhakrishnan, President of India, praising the first issue of AUM Magazine.

19 December 1965

Began first lecture series: in Minneapolis.

1-13 January 1966

Transit strike in New York. Chinmoy walked to work from Brooklyn every day.

20 March 1966

Recital at the Indian Cultural Centre.

22 July 1966

The AUM Centre was incorporated in Puerto Rico. This was the first Centre in the world.

30 July 1966

Sri Chinmoy's writings began to appear regularly in El Mundo in Puerto Rico.

12 August 1966

The AUM Centre was legally registered in New York. This was the second Centre in the world.

Early 1967

The Transcendental Photograph was taken by Priyta Lakhini from Jamaica, West Indies.

29 April 1967

Meeting with Paul Richard.

13 June 1967

Resigned from the Indian Consulate.

20 July 1967

First TV appearance: WIPR, Puerto Rico.

1 August 1967

First radio interview: WLUZ, Puerto Rico.

13 August 1967

Began Songs of the Soul.

27 August 1967

Composed the Invocation.
