First Residence in America

Sri Chinmoy made his first home in the Western Hemisphere on the second floor of a house at 43 Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, with Mr. Sam Spanier and another disciple of Sri Aurobindo, Eric Hughes.

Sri Chinmoy has said that this apartment contained a statue of the Buddha “that was absolutely alive; I used to have most significant conversations with it, it was so living.”
