Brooklyn Beginnings
From his apartments in Brooklyn, Sri Chinmoy began to publish "Aum Magazine." He also started giving lectures, some of which were held in his modest home.
In May of 1966 Sri Chinmoy moved to the second floor of a building at 3817 Hamilton Parkway, Brooklyn, and it was here that regular meetings began: the beginnings of the first New York Centre. By this time, he had begun attracting a number of seekers. With their support, he was later able to give up his job at the Consulate and devote his full energies to his spiritual mission. In July 1966, he went on a visit to Puerto Rico and founded a Centre there. On December 11, 1966, Sri Chinmoy moved to the fourth floor of 504 East 84th Street in Manhattan.
